Paramedic
They respond to requests to assess, diagnose, and treat as required. They triage patients and can support the needs of the practice by seeing patients within the surgery but also in the patient’s home.
Paramedics can support a wide range of patients with varying conditions. This includes those with long-term conditions, minor injuries, and minor illness. They can also support patients who require wound care, have fallen, have musculoskeletal problems, and have infections. Paramedics can supply a range of medicines.
Duties for a paramedic may include;
- visiting patients in their homes
- responding as needed to more urgent cases
- recording patient details to identify any new issues as part of their personal care plan
A paramedic is someone who;
- is calm and works well under pressure
- enjoys lots of variety in their work
- has excellent knowledge retention
To work as a paramedic, you can either become qualified through completion of a paramedic science degree, complete a degree standard apprenticeship in paramedic science with an ambulance service trust or become a student paramedic with an ambulance service and study whilst working. A paramedic needs to be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to practice.
